Gartner has consolidated its position as the leader of the pack through its latest acquisition of SCM World, we are not sure how much Gartner paid for SCM but it is estimated to be around the £10m plus mark.
SCM World is a privately held company headquartered in London, U.K., with approximately 60 associates serving clients worldwide in Supply Chain Management. SCM World is a leading cross-industry peer network and learning community providing subscription-based research and conferences powered by the world’s most influential chief supply chain officers and senior supply chain practitioners.
Readers may recall back in 2009 Gartner bought AMR, which served supply chain management and IT professionals.
What Gartner says:
“The SCM World acquisition is consistent with Gartner’s growth strategy to invest in developing world-class products and services that help our supply chain clients make the right decisions, every day,” said Gene Hall, chief executive officer, Gartner. “The combination of Gartner’s analyst-generated supply chain research and advisory services with SCM World’s industry-leading peer network for chief supply chain officers, user-generated research and conferences aligns closely to the growing demands of clients worldwide. Together, Gartner and SCM World create the best source of objective research, strategic advice, peer networking and must-attend conferences for chief supply chain officers and their leadership teams worldwide.”
What does it mean for AR professionals?
- Those with subscriptions to SCM World should look closely at any tactics and agreements they have with SCM world as Gartner is unlikely to continue with flexible go-to-market offerings beyond their Gartner Connect offerings. AR professionals and Market Intelligence managers alike should look at securing any renewals now with auto-renewals as Gartner will almost certainly increase margins, resulting in sharp price increases and the end of enterprise licences as it was the case for the Burton and AMR acquisitions.
- Those with a subscription to Gartner but not SCM World can look forward to an expanded portfolio from Gartner with a deeper network including an increased number of end users.
