We’re very sad to hear that Claus Egge has passed away.
Claus was a lovely man and a great analyst. For those who knew him, the world is now a poorer place.
Our sympathies go to his family, friends and colleagues.
If you would like to send a message, his colleagues at Rainmaker Files have asked for them to be sent to email@example.com

In this interview Ben Woo, MD & Chief Strategist at Neuralytix, Inc. explains a little more about his background and company. Ben founded the company two years ago having worked as Programme VP at IDC for five years where he was responsible for advising clients on the evolution and trends relating to data storage systems. He also spoke at large events including the Big Data conferences worldwide. You can find out more about Ben through his LinkedIn profile and keep up to date via his blog and twitter.
- What are your coverage areas?
We take a very different approach to market coverage. While most analyst firms cover technology areas, Neuralytix covers the business value of IT. We take a business problem, and discuss how various technologies apply to the problem.
- What are your opinions of the IT Analysis Marketplace and where do you see it going?
Despite being an alumnus of a very large analyst firm; we believe that most IT vendors are interested in the opinions of independent analyst firms. We also believe that analysts will become influencers. (Not that they were not before). However, those analysts who have greater influence on social media and other new media will be more relevant than the traditional report based publication model. (more…)

Today we learn more about Phil Fersht, CEO at HfS Research. Phil has become a household name in the BPO business with a long track record of analysing this technology sector. Having worked as a Director at IDC for five years and then as VP at Yankee, Phil went on to work for Deloitte Consulting and AMR Research before joining HfS Research in 2009. You can follow Phil’s updates via twitter and LinkedIn or hear more from him and his team via the HfS blog.
- What are your coverage areas?
Business and IT Services: Business Process Outsourcing, ERP implementation strategies, Shared Services and Outsourcing, CFO and Business Operations strategies
- What are your opinions of the IT Analysis Marketplace and where do you see it going?
It’s struggling to change the status quo of the last 15+ years. The traditional analyst firms are still making money so they have no burning platform for change. All their research is firewalled and very slow to market and their analyst blogs are rarely read and clearly regulated. Too many of the analysts, especially in services, are not from real industry/practitioner backgrounds, which frustrates clients because they want to talk to analysts who’ve done more than pontificate from an ivory tower. At the same time, I do not see many analyst firms challenging their dominant position, so do not expect to see much change anytime soon. (more…)

If you’ve not yet voted then please take this opportunity to give your top-rated analyst a boost and nominate them for this year’s IIAR 2012 Analyst of the Year and IIAR Analyst Firm of the Year.
We’ve worked hard to make this year’s survey a robust reflection of AR pros’ perspective on top-rated analysts and analyst firms but we need your help. It’s only an accurate reflection if you vote so please take just five minutes out while you enjoy your lunch or coffee/tea break to answer a few questions.
The winner will be the analyst with the highest overall rating from multiple responses, rather than the analyst that attracts the highest number of votes.
IIAR Analyst Firm of the Year will be run using the same format only we’ve split out the large global analyst firms from other smaller and independent firms so you can vote for multiple analyst firms.
All marketing communication professionals who regularly engage with analysts – IIAR members and non–members – are welcome to take part and all individual votes will be treated as strictly confidential.
The survey will be open until Friday 10th August with the results to be announced in September. There’s not long to go now so please do vote. Any questions feel free to contact me.

I know many of you are short of time so I will try to summarise my point here. In almost 20 years spent in the influencer relations world I can count the number of AR people achieving senior promotions to leadership roles on one hand. I’ve participated in many conversations over the years with AR professionals feeling left out of those promotion decisions, maybe it’s time to either accept that as the status quo or chose to do something about it. The rest of my post focuses on doing something about it.
If you’re like me you’ll have read or listened to discussions that, on reflection were just common sense or obvious, I’m increasingly concerned that common sense doesn’t prevail and there are times when you need a simple reminder that can act as a catalyst to help you take a decision or move forward in some way. I’m hoping that this post is one of those.. (more…)

The Institute of Industry Analyst Relations (IIAR) is pleased to recognize the first two recipients – Ellie Warner and Ed Gyurko – as IIAR Certified Experts.
This marks the official launch of two new IIAR certification levels consisting of IIAR Certified Expert (CE) and IIAR Certified Fellow (CF). These qualifications are designed for Analyst Relations (AR) professionals with four or eight years plus experience respectively focused in the AR industry.
Ed Gyurko – IIAR Certified Expert, Former Board Member and Influencer Engagement Manager, Logica (LinkedIn, @edgyurko) one of the first qualifying experts said, “The new IIAR certifications will not only help provide AR professionals with a way of differentiating themselves in the marketplace, but will also help enhance the AR profession overall.”
Ellie Warner – IIAR Certified Expert, Director, Corporate Communications APJ, EMC (LinkedIn, @elliewarner) commented, “The new IIAR certifications are good for AR professionals both as individuals and as a community. They not only provide industry recognition, but also help to increase the knowledge base of the AR professional through the best practice white papers and case studies that have to be completed as part of the assessment.” (more…)

The next IIAR APJ Forum will be held on Wednesday 25th July at 4pm Sydney / 2pm Singapore / 11:30am India at Forrester’s offices in Sydney with webex facilities for those who wish to dial in.
Dane Anderson (VP – Research Director and Region Manager, Forrester) has kindly agreed to provide IIAR members with a detailed update on where Forrester is at in the Asia-Pacific/Japan (APJ) region and an update 12 months after the Springboard acquisition. This will very much be a members-led discussion and so this event provides a great opportunity to ask questions that affect your business.
Following the event there will be informal networking with AR peers and the broader analyst community at the Cargo Bar, Darling Harbour from 5:30pm Sydney time onwards.
This session is free for IIAR members. Non-members can pay $A25 to attend via conference call or $A100 to attend in person. Please contact me to secure your place and receive further details or to request an invoice for payment. The event will be hosted by Dave Noble, IIAR Board Member.

More than 35 top-name analysts attended last week’s IIAR UK networking event in a gathering that saw some 70 analyst and AR professionals get together on a (rare!) sunny afternoon.
It was a fantastic few hours in which Gartner, Forrester, IDC, Informa and Ovum were all well represented. We were also lucky to be able to spend time with a number of analysts from Freeform Dynamics and Celent in addition to those more niche specialists including RedMonk, Disruptive Analysis, PAC, CCS Insight and euroLAN Research.
Helen Ridgway, Managing Director at AxiCom said, “This is the second year that AxiCom has sponsored the IIAR Networking Event and we were delighted with the turnout. It is a great opportunity for us to say ‘thank you’ to the analysts for all their work over the year and to share and collaborate on best practices with AR peers. We are very pleased to be associated with the IIAR and the work that it does to serve the global AR community.”
Attendees were treated to drinks and canapés kindly provided via sponsorship from AxiCom with support from the IIAR. We are hugely grateful to AxiCom for their continued support of this event.
Here are some of the things both analysts and our members said about the evening: (more…)
