We’re very sad to hear that Claus Egge has passed away.

Claus was a lovely man and a great analyst.  For those who knew him, the world is now a poorer place.

Our sympathies go to his family, friends and colleagues.

Around Ben Woo from Neuralytix in 10 questions

In this interview Ben Woo, MD & Chief Strategist at Neuralytix, Inc. explains a little more about his background and company. Ben founded the company two years ago having worked as Programme VP at IDC for five years where he was responsible for advising clients on the evolution and trends relating to data storage systems.   1. What are your coverage areas?
    We take a very different approach to market coverage. While most analyst firms cover technology areas, Neuralytix covers the business value of IT. We take a business problem, and discuss how various technologies apply to the problem.
  2. What are your opinions of the IT Analysis Marketplace and where do you see it going?
    Despite being an alumnus of a very large analyst firm; we believe that most IT vendors are interested in the opinions of independent analyst firms. We also believe that analysts will become influencers. (Not that they were not before). However, those analysts who have greater influence on social media and other new media will be more relevant than the traditional report based publication model. Continue reading

Around Phil Fersht from HfS Research in 10 Questions

Today we learn more about Phil Fersht, CEO at HfS Research. Phil has become a household name in the BPO business with a long track record of analysing this technology sector. Having worked as a Director at IDC for five years and then as VP at Yankee, Phil went on to work for Deloitte Consulting and AMR Research before joining HfS Research in 2009.   1. What are your coverage areas?
    Business and IT Services:  Business Process Outsourcing, ERP implementation strategies, Shared Services and Outsourcing, CFO and Business Operations strategies
  2. What are your opinions of the IT Analysis Marketplace and where do you see it going?
    It’s struggling to change the status quo of the last 15+ years. The traditional analyst firms are still making money so they have no burning platform for change. All their research is firewalled and very slow to market and their analyst blogs are rarely read and clearly regulated. Too many of the analysts, especially in services, are not from real industry/practitioner backgrounds, which frustrates clients because they want to talk to analysts who’ve done more than pontificate from an ivory tower. At the same time, I do not see many analyst firms challenging their dominant position, so do not expect to see much change anytime soon. Continue reading

[GUEST POST] Will the real leader please stand up?

I know many of you are short of time so I will try to summarise my point here. In almost 20 years spent in the influencer relations world I can count the number of AR people achieving senior promotions to leadership roles on one hand. I’ve participated in many conversations over the years with AR professionals feeling left out of those promotion decisions, maybe it’s time to either accept that as the status quo or chose to do something about it. The rest of my post focuses on doing something about it.

If you’re like me you’ll have read or listened to discussions that, on reflection were just common sense or obvious, I’m increasingly concerned that common sense doesn’t prevail and there are times when you need a simple reminder that can act as a catalyst to help you take a decision or move forward in some way.
