IIAR UK Forum: Come and meet Ovum’s Senior Management Team

For the next IIAR UK Forum in London on Wednesday 30th May at 4pm BST, we’re delighted to welcome Ovum MD Brett Azuma, Global Director for Ovum IT Ian Charlesworth, and Global Director for Ovum Telecoms Richard Mahony. We’re meeting with Brett, Ian and Richard just after the Ovum Industry Congress, being held in London from the 23-24 May, so this will be a great opportunity to hear the latest news at Ovum and what’s upcoming, and find out more about Ovum’s strategy and how this is developing.

In addition, David Treacher (Industry AR Manager, Dassault Systemes) will be sharing his insights on how he runs a global AR programme. This will be an opportunity to share experiences and views of the analyst companies that we all typically work with.

Plus there will be updates from IIAR Board member, David Rossiter and the IIAR UK chapter.

Gartner gets the IDEAs from Forrester

It seems Gene took Gartner‘s shopping trolley on a jumbo to Oz this week and a page from George‘s book: the research firm just announced it was buying Ideas International [ASX:IDE] was established in 1981 as a consultancy service and since 1986 has provided its special brand of research to IT users and vendors. This acquisition is still subject to regulatory and other approvals.

This move has a strong reminiscence from Forrester’s purchase of Springboard last year (read our post:Forrester joins the feeding frenzy, buys Springboard)

Our offices in London require a PR and Analyst Relations Coordinator.

The PR and AR Coordinator is responsible for supporting and executing global communications plans to promote the company’s key messages, products and intellectual capital in media, public, corporate, and analyst forums. Reporting to the Corporate Communications Manager the role includes: support of communications strategies and planning efforts primarily for FRSGlobal, but also for other Wolters Kluwer Financial Services lines of business; writing communications including (but not limited to) press releases, articles for external publication, analyst related materials; developing effective relationships with the media and industry analysts; coordinating media interviews; providing input into the communications reporting and evaluation processes, the PR and AR coordinator will also be responsible for assigning work to external public relations agencies. The PR and AR coordinator will provide back-up support for external and internal communications as needed, and will provide back-up support to the VP Global Marketing, Wolters Kluwer Financial Services FRSGlobal. Social Media In the Eyes of Asia-Pacific Analysts

Last week, IIAR Board Member and APJ Chapter Lead – Dave Noble – presented his findings from the latest Intelligen annual survey* on what analysts are looking for from AR in APJ. Discussion focused on social media and what this means for the AR professional.

According to analysts in APJ the number one social media channel is LinkedIn. On average, 61% of APJ analysts use LinkedIn for research “often” or “sometimes”. This echoes sentiments expressed by a panel of analysts at the IIAR’s UK Forum last September. It seems that while analysts have mixed opinions over the real value of LinkedIn, most use it for some form of research and to a lesser extent, for promotion.

In India, LinkedIn is a particularly popular platform with 90% usage, for a mix of both research and promotion. You may be interested to read this article about what recruiters look at when reviewing LinkedIn profiles.

AR Manager for IntraLinks – Boston, USA

The Analyst Relations Manager at IntraLinks will report into the Product Marketing department (to the SVP Product Marketing) and will support both Product Marketing and the global Sales organization.  This resource will be responsible for managing relationships with leading industry analysts across all IntraLinks solution segments.

This position will:

  • Manage the entire Analyst Relations function for the company including negotiating subscriptions, ensuring analysts are current, co-presenting to analysts with solution leads, and identifying relevant research.
  • Facilitate analyst research efforts across the company by managing the completion of surveys and other requests for information.

[GUEST POST] The Wi-Fi isn’t working!

I’m here at an analyst conference, trying to combine a seamless online and offline experience. The presentations are compelling, the panel discussions are lively, and I should be using social media to augment and amplify the information I’m soaking up from my seat in the second-to-back row.

Except that I can’t. Because, as usual, the Wi-Fi isn’t working.

Sure, there’s a Wi-Fi network, and it worked OK for 30 minutes yesterday, but today, the connectivity is pretty much nada. I’m at a central London hotel where the IT infrastructure is clearly not up to the job, especially when 300-plus delegates all try and connect their notebook, tablet and mobile phone to the network. First, the network slows, then it just stops responding. I’m not alone. Over coffee with the chief analyst, he shrugs and says “yeah. I’ve got the same problem!”

This is very frustrating but also unfortunately commonplace. Even the GSMA couldn’t make the free Wi-Fi work at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. There were Wi-Fi nodes available, but nobody I met was unable to draw data across them. And no, it’s not always so easy to switch over to good old 3G, especially when you’re incurring data roaming charges. (more…)
